Up (4 Disc Combo Pack with Digital Copy and DVD) [Blu-ray] This instant

What a great uplifting movie. The animation is wonderful, in fact I almost forgot that it was animated after 30 minutes. The story is completely 100% improbable, but so believeable and heartwarming.

Up is a road movie. In the first 10 minutes Carl Fredricksen (Ed Asner's voice) grows up, falls in love, gets married, and his wife dies before they can take their dream adventure trip to Paradise Falls. The first teary eyed moment. To avoid being hauled off to a retirement home, Mr. Fredricksen, ties a million balloons to his house and floats the house away. A young boy trying to earn his 'help the elderly' badge is a stow away in the house. The wonderful part of this movie is the boy and old man trying to get the house to Paradise Falls.

The movie is one part Incredibles, one part Wizard of Oz, one part The Red Balloon, little bit Skinny and Fatty, and toss in a little Gran Torino (not the foul language or violence, but the relationship with the neighbor boy). The relationship between the old and the young boy is the real point of this film.

It's hard to imagine how animation can get better than this. This film had wonderful pacing. It acted more like a film than a cartoon. Everything moved gracefully and naturally. It also didn't try to be the kind of creepy animated realism like Polar Express.

This movie is for all ages. Thirteen year old son said he hated Disney cartoons and movies now, but he laughed many times and ended up enjoying this film.

The single disc version has no bonus features - just the pure clean film. For those that want the movie and no nonsense, this is the answer.Get more detail about Up (4 Disc Combo Pack with Digital Copy and DVD) [Blu-ray].
